VB: Cowgirls Return To Action This Weekend At The Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will look to bounce back from its home opening loss against Houston on Tuesday when the Cowgirls travel to Lafayette to take part in the Louisiana-Lafayette Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic Friday and Saturday.

McNeese will open tournament action at 1:30 p.m. Friday against host UL-Lafayette then will take on Florida A&M at 4:30 p.m. later in the afternoon. The Cowgirls will close out the tournament with a 10 a.m. match against Eastern Michigan.

• McNeese enters the weekend with a 2-2 record and will look to snap a two-match losing streak after a home loss to Houston on Tuesday and a loss to Robert Morris in the final match of the Robert Morris Hilton Invitational last weekend.

• Senior libero Angela McGownd is two digs away from moving into McNeese's career Top 5. McGownd has recorded 20 or more digs in the last three matches including a season high 27 against Manhattan.

• Are 0-3 after three straight set losses in their own Doubletree Classic last weekend. Their losses were to Incarnate Word, UTEP, and Tulane.

• McNeese has won the last two matches against the Cajuns including a 3-1 win in Lafayette during the 2016 season.


FLORIDA A&M NOTES

• Member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)

• Head into the weekend with a 1-4 record after opening the season with a 3-0 win over Texas Southern at the MEAC/SWAC Challenge last weekend. Coming off a 3-0 loss to Mercer on Tuesday.

• First meeting against the Rattlers

EASTERN MICHIGAN NOTES

• From Ypsilanti, Michigan

• Are 1-2 on the season after playing in the Utah State Tournament last weekend. Only win came against Utah State in their season opener.

Following the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic, McNeese will return home for four straight matches (Texas Southern- Sept. 10), Prairie View (Sept. 17) along with Grambling (Sept. 20) and UL-Monroe (Sept. 20) at the McNeese Round Robin.
