LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboys will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host Incarnate Word at 6:30 in Southland Conference action while looking for their third straight win.
The game has been designated "McNeese Student Experience Night" where students, who are admitted free with a valid ID, can get free food and t-shirts as well as a chance to win VISA gift cards and more.
McNeese (7-9, 2-3 SLC) is coming off an 85-76 win over Northwestern State last Saturday in its last outing and before that, handed Abilene Christian an 88-84 loss on the road for that team's first league loss.
UIW (4-11, 1-3) stunned preseason favorite New Orleans, 73-70, at UNO on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak.
A.J. Lawson, the reigning Southland Conference and Louisiana Player of the Week, tops the Cowboys in scoring with a 16.6 mark after coming off a career-high 37 point outing at ACU then following it up with 20 points against NSU.
Sha'markus Kennedy follows Lawson with a 16.3 average while
Dru Kuxhausen is sinking 15.6 per game. The three rank 4, 7 and 9 respectively in the league.
Kuxhausen continues to lead the nation in three-point baskets made (68) and is second in the country in three-point field goals made per game (4.3) and 3FG percentage (50.4). Because of those numbers, the Cowboys as a team are second in the nation in 3FG shooting (42.0 percent) while ranking second in total field goal percentage at 51.4.
McNeese is also 11
th in the country with scoring 81.9 points per game.
UIW's Keaston Willis is the only double-digit scorer on the team, leading the way with a 12.7 mark as the Cardinals are scoring at a 66.0 per game clip.
McNeese won last year's only meeting by an 88-778 score in San Antonio and has won four straight games in the series that spans over six games. Overall, the Cowboys lead 5-1 in the all-time series and are 3-0 against UIW at home.
Following Wednesday's game, the Cowboys will take it back on the road on Saturday for a visit to New Orleans.
