HOUSTON– The McNeese Cowgirls will continue their season-opening road trek on Friday when they take on the University of Houston at the Winston Tennis Facility.
McNeese (1-3) will face-off against the Cougars (0-1) at 11:00 on Friday morning.
The Cowgirls are coming of a 1-1 weekend where they picked up their first win of the season by beating Grambling 4-1. That was preceded by a 5-2 setback to Louisiana Tech earlier in the day.
In the loss to Tech, Cowgirl freshman Hanna Blinouskaya earned her first career win as a Cowgirl after a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win over La. Tech's Andrea Perez. The other win in the first match of the day came at the No. 1 spot where Marija Mastilovic defeated Nadja Manjon 7-5, 6-3 in her first win of the season.
In the win over Grambling, the Cowgirls cruised to the 4-1 win with the only point lost was due to a default with McNeese being able to field only five players. The Cowgirls combined to win all eight sets - six in singles and two in doubles while leading in two other singles matches 1-0 before being declared unfinished due to accumulating the number of wins to take the overall match.
Houston dropped a 6-1 decision to 18th-ranked Texas A&M in its only match of the season back on Jan. 19.
Following Friday's match, the Cowgirls will finish out their road journey when they visit SMU on Saturday.
McNeese will open up its home slate on Feb. 9 against Tyler Junior College.
