LAKE CHARLES – Two days after breaking eight school records which included scoring a whopping 140 points in a 140-37 win over Dallas Christian, the McNeese Cowboys will take a drastic step up in competition on Friday when they visit defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at SFA's Johnson Coliseum. The game will broadcast on the McNeese Radio Network (Magic 92.1 FM) and will also be televised on ESPN Plus (SFA production).
McNeese (1-1) and SFA (1-0) have both had games canceled as this scheduling came together in a 24-hour span.
"(SFA head coach) Kyle (Keller) called me on Sunday and asked about us having a game canceled and if we wanted to play," said McNeese head coach
Heath Schroyer. "We understand how hard this game is. Stephen F. has been the flagship program in this league for a decade. It's a great opportunity for our guys to understand what our league is. There are good teams in our league besides SFA, but when you look at what they had last year and they have guys back, I look at it as nothing but a positive. We'll go play them on their home court and we'll get a great gauge on where we'll need to improve and our guys will see what this league is and what it's about."
Friday's game will be a non-conference matchup and will be the only game between the two teams in the regular season.
