YOUNGSVILLE— McNeese softball scored a school record 21 runs and drew a school record 16 walks in a 21-1 (5 inn.) win over Detroit Mercy Saturday at the Mardi Gras Mambo. The run-rule win is the second in as many games for the Cowgirls.
McNeese will conclude tournament play against Jacksonville State at 12 p.m. Sunday.
After an hour and a half delay and giving up a run in the top of the first inning, McNeese stayed patient at the plate and scored nine runs on six walks, four hits including three doubles in the inning to take a 9-1 lead.
The Cowgirls (12-2) picked up where they left off in the first inning by scoring eight runs on four hits and took advantage of three Titan errors in the second inning to extend the lead to 17-1.
A four run, third inning put the Cowgirls up 21-1 in an inning where head coach
James Landreneau emptied his bench. Eighteen Cowgirls saw at least one plate appearance in the game.
Brenique Wright led the Cowgirls hitting attack with a 3 for 3 day with one double, a sacrifice fly, stolen base and scored three runs. Sophomore
Alayis Seneca and freshman
Caleigh Cross both picked up two hits apiece with on their hits being a double.
Alexsandra Flores improved to 3-1 on the year, giving up one run on three hits, walked two and struck out two.
Whitney Tate relieved Alexsandra in the fifth inning and struck out all three batters she faced.

B1- McNeese scored nine runs on four hits, an error and six walks.
Alayis Seneca led the game off with a double. Wright and Cross also picked up doubles in the inning. McNeese 9, Detroit Mercy 1
B2- McNeese tacked on eight runs, on four hits, and took advantage of three Titan errors. The Cowgirls got two RBI's from both Seneca, Wright, and
Alexandria Saldivar. The other two runs came off a wild pitch and an error. McNeese 17, Detroit Mercy 1
B3- Four runs this inning came off a sacrifice fly by Wright, an RBI walk by
Tiffany Steczo, a wild pitch, and the final Cowgirl run came when
Jil Poullard stole home.
