LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowgirl tennis team will open up a five-match home stand on Friday when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 12 p.m. in Southland Conference action at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center on the McNeese campus.
The Cowgirls (2-8-1, 1-1 SLC) went 1-1 in last weekend's league opening slate, beating Incarnate Word 4-2 on Friday before dropping a 7-0 decision against Abilene Christian, both on the road.
McNeese has been handicapped all season with just five healthy players taking the court.
Matilde Mulatero leads the team with four singles wins at the No. 4 spot and has teamed with
Sofia San Jose Moreno in doubles action to account for five wins while
Marija Mastilovic has three victories at the No. 1 singles.
The Islanders (11-3, 1-1) dropped a 4-3 decision to Central Arkansas last Sunday and defeated Northwestern State 5-2 two days prior.
Corpus defeated McNeese 5-2 last season and has won four of the last five meetings. McNeese's last win over the Islanders came in the 2018 conference championship season.
Following Friday's match, the Cowgirls will host Lamar at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
