LAKE CHARLES – McNeese dropped its third-straight hard-fought women's tennis match on Sunday, falling to Lamar 6-1 in Southland Conference action.
 
The loss moved the Cowgirls to 2-10-1 overall and 1-3 in league play while Lamar improved to 8-4 and 2-2 in the conference.
 
McNeese came close to picking up the ever-important doubles point while playing an athlete short. Matilde Mulatero and Sofia San Jose Moreno topped Bianca Vitale and Natalia Molina 6-4 in the No. 1 position but the Cowgirls just missed out on the point after Carlotta Romito and Hanna Blinouskaya fell 6-4 as Lamar won the point. The Cowgirls lost in the No. 3 doubles by default due to not having enough players.
 
Mulatero picked up the only score for the Cowgirls on the day, that coming in the No. 4 singles match after she rallied from an 0-1 deficit to defeate Molina 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.
 
The Cowgirls will continue their current five-match home stand next Saturday when they host Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
