LAKE CHARLES – Former McNeese infielder Jace Peterson was one of 18 Southland Conference baseball alumni that have been selected to their respective MLB team player pools for the league's shortened season set to begin Wednesday.
Peterson will be entering his seventh season in the MLB with the Milwaukee Brewers after spending the last two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
The two-time First Team All-Southland pick signed with the Brewers after posting a slash line of .313/.398/.512 with 46 RBI, 58 runs and 13 stolen bases in 90 games for Baltimore's Triple-A affiliate in 2019. In two big-league stints, Peterson hit .220 with 11 RBI, 14 runs and four stolen bases in 29 games.
"Even when no one knew if there would be a baseball season this year, Jace was working hard to be ready," said McNeese Head Coach
Justin Hill. "Once we were able to open up the facility again, he was here almost every day preparing for the second round of spring training and I am excited for this opportunity for him."
