WSOC: McNeese Returns Home to Welcome Incarnate Word and Corpus Christi

LAKE CHARLES-  Following a road trip that featured a win against Nicholls and a tie against Southeastern, the McNeese Cowgirls (9-3-2, 6-1-1) will return home to host Incarnate Word and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi as the Cowgirls maintain their position atop of the Southland Conference standings.

Last Meetings:
The Cowgirls traveled to play both teams the weekend of September 17-19. The Cowgirls fell to Corpus Christi 1-0, a game the Pokes conceded an early goal in the 9th minute. The Cowgirls responded two days later defeating UIW by a score of 2-1. Sophomore midfielder Jillian Bech and senior forward Anna Watson provided the scoring punch for the Cowgirls, while true freshman goalie Jackie Kelly recorded seven saves. The Cowgirls last loss was the aforementioned match against CC (9/17). 

Scouting the Cardinals:                                             
After a win against Houston Baptist, UIW finds themselves one game shy of a .500 record in conference. The Cardinals have scored 12 goals in 13 games while allowing 17. Senior forward Keeley Ayala leads the SLC with 42 shots taken. Kiki Lara's team features four preseason first-team SLC nominees Eve Clarkson, Isabella Beletic, Hannah Walsh, and Sierra Wannamaker.

Scouting the Islanders:                                    
The Islanders are lead by Craig Shaw who is in his fifth season leading the Texas A&M - CC program. At the forefront of their attack is Samantha Palomino who ranks third in the conference with 10 points. In net, sophomore Kennedy Stelling has seen the bulk of play with 72 saves in 10 starts. 

Offensive Prowess                                             
The Cowgirls rank first in a bevy of categories amongst the rest of the SLC. Drew Fitzgerald's team ranks first with 91 total offensive points. The next closest team is Northwestern St. with 62. The Pokes also rank first amongst the league in total goals (31) and assists (29). 

Sophomore forward Rachel Young has proved to be a difference maker off the bench, she has scored five of her six goals over the last four games. Her recent offensive barrage places her with the second most points in the league, 13 (6g, 1a). 

Senior's Anna Watson and Havana Johnson each have nine points on the year (4g, 1a) which slots them both in tied for fourth-highest league-wide. 

Senior Keely Morrow is tied first in the league with five assists on the year from the defender position. 

All fans are encouraged to come out and support the Cowgirls as a part of "Food Truck Friday" and "Student Organization Night." There will be a one prize winner from each student organization represented and the first 50 students will receive a free T-Shirt.
