WSOC: Cowgirls Gear Up For Regular Season Finale at Northwestern State

LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Cowgirls (11-4-2, 8-2-1) will visit Natchitoches for the regular-season finale as they take on the top-seeded Northwestern State Lady Demons.

Due to the recent ruling involving the Houston Baptist soccer program and the retroactive adjusting of 10 games this season (including games involving NSU), this match has no seeding stipulations as the Cowgirls are locked into the #2 seed ahead of next week's Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Series History:
Historically, the Cowgirls sit at 15-16-5 against the Lady Demons, however, the Pokes are 7-3 in the last 10 matchups. The most recent matchup was a 2-0 McNeese victory on September 26th, seniors Mariah Ruelas and Keely Morrow scored for the Cowgirls. Jackie Kelley recorded a shutout and made seven saves.

Setting The Scene:
The regular season finale features the aforementioned top teams in the conference. Last week, the Cowgirls defeated HBU 1-0 on senior night. Emma Roccaforte extended her school records with the 19th shutout of her career while recording her 27th career win in the net. Kelsey Crosby scored the game-winner for the Cowgirls, her first with the Cowgirls. Northwestern recently clinched the conference title with a 1-0 win against HBU as well. The Lady Demons are led by the leagues leading scorer Olivia Draguicevich (12g, 2a).

Offensive Prowess 
The Cowgirls rank first in a plethora of categories amongst the rest of the SLC. Drew Fitzgerald's team ranks first with 105 total offensive points. The next closest team is opponent NSU with 75. The Pokes also rank first amongst the league in total goals (36) and assists (33).

The Cowgirls offense is ranked 47th in the nation across D1 with 2.12 goals per game.

Sophomore forward Rachel Young has proved to be a difference maker off the bench, she has scored six of her seven goals over the last six games. Her recent offensive barrage places her with the second most points in the league, 16 (7g, 2a).

Senior Havana Johnson has 13 points on the year (5g, 3a) which is fourth in the conference.

Senior defender Keely Morrow is tied for first in the league with five assists on the year from the defender position.
