NATCHITOCHES- The McNeese Cowgirls (12-4-2, 9-2-1) defeated the league-leading Northwestern State Lady Demons (10-5-2, 10-2-0) 1-0 thanks to Morgan Schooley's goal in the 89th minute to cap off the regular season.
On a crisp night in Natchitoches, offense was hard to come by as both teams went scoreless through 88 minutes. Defender Morgan Schooler intercepted an attempted clear by the Lady Demon goalie Acelya Aydogmus and found the top left corner of the net from around 30 yards out. The goal would give the Cowgirls the lead with less than a minute remaining. The aforementioned attempted clear was from a result of a Mariah Ruelas shot attempt which would help condense the box. Ruelas was all over the field in her season-high 82 minutes of action helping assist the Pokes on both sides.
The Cowgirls were able to limit the second ranked offense in the conference, Northwestern, to just four shots on net. Emma Roccaforte played the first half and was tested early as Demon's fired two shots at goal in the first ten minutes. Jackie Kelley who played the second half, recorded a save as time expired to cement the season sweep of the Lady Demons on their senior night.
McNeese Head Coach Drew Fitzgerald:
"Proud of our team effort tonight. I think the results speak for themselves. We are looking forward to the conference tournament now."
