LAKE CHARLES – McNeese volleyball beat Northwestern State (25-16, 25-22, 25-18) this Saturday to defend their third-place standing in the Southland Conference. This is the second time these teams have met this season and the second time the Cowgirls have won in straight sets.
Anyse Smith led the Cowgirls with 15 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. Both Baylee Laskoskie and Ceci Harness earned 17 assists a piece.
Early in the first set a kill by Smith, a service ace by Lizzy Low, and two attack errors by the Northwestern State allowed the Cowgirls to gather momentum that the Lady Demons could not match. Two consecutive kills by Macee Krpec and Laskoskie led McNeese to pick up the first set win, 25-16.
The second set opened with Northwestern State earning five consecutive points from three service aces and two attack errors. Following a McNeese timeout, the Cowgirls increased their intensity to earn four points to decrease the lead. The teams took turns exchanging points, but two final kills led the Cowgirls to victory.
The Cowgirls continued their momentum into the third set. A kill by Kendall Glueck, a Lady Demon attack error, and three service aces in a row by Low set the score to 10-4. The Cowgirls maintained their lead through the end of the set, earning four points in a row to end the match 25-18.
Following four home matches, McNeese will return to the road Thursday, November 4 at Nicholls for the second meeting of the season.
