VB: Cowgirls Travel To Abilene Christian Thursday

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will look to continue its hot start to the season Thursday night when the Cowgirls travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian in a 6 p.m. match at the Teague Center. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats also available.
 
McNeese (2-0, 2-0 SLC), picked 13th in the preseason poll, enters the match tied atop the standings with Stephen F. Austin and New Orleans who are also 2-0. Central Arkansas is 1-0. Abilene Christian (2-2, 1-1 SLC) who was picked eighth in the preseason poll is currently tied for fifth place.
 
The Cowgirls are coming off opening weekend wins over Southeastern La. in straight sets and a five-set victory over Nicholls last Saturday.
 
McNeese will be without starters Regan Stiawalt and Alexis Lambert who will miss the match due to COVID protocol. Stiawalt, this week's Southland Conference offensive Player of the Week is the Cowgirls' kill leader with 35 and a .378 hitting percent. Lambert has 19 kills to her credit.
 
Kendall Glueck will be the Cowgirls' top kill leader heading into the match with 25 along with Lauren Burt who has 14. Baylee Laskoskie and Caitlin Sharrock have split playing time as the Cowgirls setter. Laskoskie leads the team with 42 assists while Sharrock has 40.
 
On the defensive side of the net, the Cowgirls have three players with five or more blocks. Burt leads with six blocks and Glueck and Jayden Kennedy both have five. Madison Fontenot is tops on the team with 29 digs.
 
The Wildcats got a head start to their season, beginning at the end of January with two matches against Texas-Arlington before opening conference play with a 3-2 win over Incarnate Word. ACU is coming off a 3-1 loss at Texas A&M-CC Saturday.
 
Katelyn Mueller leads the Wildcats' offense with 72 kills and Lindsey Toney has a team high 14 blocks.
