HAMMOND – After going the last 10 days without playing a game due to COVID protocols, the McNeese Cowboys will return to the hardwood on Wednesday night when it visits Southeastern Louisiana in a key Southland Conference game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SLU's University Center and will broadcast live on ESPN+. The game will also air live on the McNeese Radio Network (Magic 92.1 FM and mymagiclc.com).

McNeese (8-11, 2-8 SLC) hasn't played since dropping a 69-66 decision at Northwestern State on Feb. 13 as its following two games against Incarnate Word and New Orleans, were postponed due to a positive test and contact tracing for the Cowboys.

What was supposed to have been the first two of five home games over the final six contests has now turned into what will be the sixth straight game away from home. McNeese has not played in Burton Coliseum since a Jan. 20 matchup to SLU where the Cowboys lost 92-88.

"Our guys are anxious to get back on the court this week," said head coach Heath Schroyer. "Obviously COVID and contact tracing hit us last week and we missed out on two home games. But we have a lot to play for and we need to go to Southeastern Louisiana and play well against a team who beat us at home earlier this season.

"They (SLU) are an extremely talented team and a hard matchup. They put five guys on the floor who can all score off the dribble and from the three (point range)."

In the last outing, the Lions (7-13, 5-6) led by 10 midway through the second half before the Cowboys began to chip away at the lead and cut it to 1 point several times with under three minutes to play. A couple of missed free throws and two turnovers with 1:30 to play proved costly in the loss.

The Cowboys are currently one game out of the eighth spot for the postseason league tournament with four games remaining. No decision has been made if the two postponed games last week will be made up.

"This is the start of a big two weeks for us," said Schroyer.

Following Wednesday's game, the Cowboys will return home on Saturday against HBU at 7:30 p.m.
