The McNeese Cowgirl tennis team will finally make its debut at its home court, the Nancy Hank Tennis Center, this Friday and Sunday when it hosts Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word to open up Southland Conference action.
Friday's match against ACU will begin at 1 p.m. while Sunday's contest against UIW will carry an 11 a.m. first serve.
McNeese has played just one match at home this season, that being an exhibition against Tyler Junior College. Due to the damage to the Nancy Hank Tennis Center caused by hurricanes Laura and Delta, the Cowgirls played that match at the Lake Charles Raquet Club. Work has been ongoing to get the Cowgirls' home courts ready to host matches, and were cleared on Thursday to do so.
The Cowgirls (0-7) are still searching for their first win of the season but have seen vast improvements over the past several matches. ACU is 2-5 on the year but has won its last two matches - 6-1 over Texas Permian Basin and 5-2 against Trinity University. This will be their conference opener as well.
UIW has played just two matches on the season due to COVID and weather canceling three contests. The Cardinals opened the year with a 6-1 loss to ULL then followed that up with a 6-1 loss against Houston. They'll play Southeastern Louisiana on Friday to begin league play.
