BEAUMONT, Texas—McNeese volleyball won its third straight match Tuesday night with a straight set (25-20, 27-25, 25-21) win over Lamar to improve to 5-4 overall and 5-4 in league play. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in the SLC.
Regan Stiawalt recorded double figure kills for the third straight match, pacing the Cowgirls with a match high 14.
Kendall Glueck joined Stiawalt with double figure kills with 11.
Baylee Laskoskie and
Caitlin Sharrock split the setter duties with both players recording 16 and 13 assists, respectively. Sharrock completed her double double with 10 digs while
Madison Fontenot led all players with 17 digs.
At the net, McNeese was led in blocks by
Lauren Burt who was credited with five and
Jaiden Kennedy picked up four.
With the first set tied at five apiece, a Lamar attacking error gave the Cowgirls a 6-5 lead. McNeese then scored three more points behind the serve of Sharrock to extend the lead to 9-5.
The Cardinals rallied to tie the set a 12 all but a kill by Glueck put the Cowgirls up 13-12. McNeese would extend its lead to 20-17 on another Lamar error.
With the Cowgirls leading 21-19, Stiawalt picked up a kill for a 22-19 lead then an ace by Laskoskie put McNeese up 23-19. McNeese would end the set on a kill by Glueck to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cowgirls trailed by as much as six points (18-12) in the second set but rallied back to tie the set at 24 apiece on a service ace by
Alexis Lambert. A kill by Lamar gave them a 25-24 lead by
Macee Krpec's kill on the next rally tied the set at 25.
Stiawalt came through with back-to-back kills for the 27-25 second set win for a 2-0 lead.
McNeese picked up six points early in the set behind the serve of Laskoskie to take an 8-1 lead and never trailed. Lamar got as close as three points late in the third set (24-21) but a Lamar error gave McNeese the third set 25-21 win and the overall match win.
The Cowgirls will conclude its home schedule Thursday by hosting Sam Houston. Seniors
Alexis Lambert,
Caitlin Sharrock and
Madison Fontenot will be honored prior to the match.
