WESTLAKE—McNeese volleyball wasted little time here Tuesday night in it's Southland Conference win over New Orleans, taking down the Privateers in straight sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-23), snapping a four-match losing streak to improve to 3-4 overall and in SLC play.
Regan Stiawalt paced the Cowgirls with nine kills while
Lauren Burt ended the match with a .625 hitting percent on five kills in eight attempts without committing an error.
Four Cowgirls recorded double figure digs with
Alexis Lambert leading the way with 19.
Madison Fontenot picked up 17 digs Stiawalt was credited with 12 and
Ceci Harness had 10.
Caitlin Sharrock led McNeese with 16 assists and three service aces. Krpec and
Jaiden Kennedy led the Cowgirls at the net with four blocks apiece.
McNeese opened the match by scoring the first three points but UNO (2-7, 2-5 SLC) scored seven of the next eight points to take a 7-4 lead. Trailing 8-5, McNeese scored four straight points to retake the lead 9-8. The Cowgirls trailed again but another scoring rally put McNeese up 15-10 and then leading 21-16, McNeese scored the next four points to take the first set.
McNeese started set 2 like set 1, with an early lead and UNO got as close as one point 9-8 but three straight Cowgirl points gave McNeese a 12-8 lead.
Leading 15-12, McNeese scored six straight points behind the serve of Harness to extend the lead to 21-12. A kill by Stiawalt and an UNO attack error put McNeese up 23-14 then a service error gave the Cowgirls a 24-15 lead before a
Kendall Glueck kill gave McNeese the 25-15 second set win.
UNO opened the third set with three straight points before McNeese took a 9-7 lead on a Privateer error.
With UNO leading 17-16, McNeese scored the next four points to take a 20-17 lead but UNO wouldn't go away too easy as they would score three straight points on two kills and a Cowgirl error to tie the set at 20 apiece.
After a Stiawalt kill for a 22-21 McNeese lead, UNO took advantage of two Cowgirl errors for a 23-22 lead.
McNeese would end the set by scoring the next three points on a kill by
Baylee Laskoskie and two UNO hitting errors to take the third set 25-23 and the overall match.
UNO was led in kills by Alexis Parrish's seven. Hannah Volpi dished out a match high 27 assists and Sheilah Purcell picked up a match high 28 digs.
The Cowgirls will return home Saturday to host Northwestern State in an 11 a.m. match.
