LAKE CHARLES – Stephen F. Austin completed a Southland Conference baseball sweep over McNeese after Sunday's 2-0 win despite the Cowboys getting a solid outing from starting pitcher Christian Vega.
 
The loss dropped the Cowboys to 12-11 overall and 6-5 in league play while SFA improved to 8-12 and 6-6.
 
Similar to how the Lumberjacks scored most of their runs on Saturday, both runs scored in Sunday's finale had some help by the Cowboys.
 
With the game tied 0-0 in the fifth, designated hitter Adrian Minjares led off by being hit by a pitch, advanced to second and then third on a couple of ground outs, then after another hit-by-pitch to put runners on the corners, Minjares scored on a wild pitch to put SFA up 1-0.
 
In the eighth, SFA got a lead-off walk then advancement to second off a sacrifice bunt. The run scored when Skylar Black turned a soft liner to right field into a triple when Clayton Rasbeary made an unsuccessful diving attempt for the out.
 
SFA's Todd Gauthe earned his fifth save of the season, second on the weekend, after throwing the ninth inning.
 
Five Lumberjack pitchers combined to allow just four McNeese hits while striking out 16 batters.
 
Vega threw seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball with two walks and three strike outs.
 
McNeese left 10 runners on base, six of those in scoring position and with three stranded on third base.
 
The Cowboys will be back in action Thursday-Saturday when they visit Southeastern Louisiana for a four-game league series.
