HAMMOND – McNeese Football returns to the gridiron on Saturday when the Cowboys visit the 23rd-ranked Southeastern Louisiana Lions at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.

The game will air live on the McNeese Radio Network (92.9 The Lake and 929thelake.com) as well as ESPN+.

McNeese (1-1, 0-1 SLC) is coming off a 48-20 loss to Incarnate Word last Saturday in its home opener while the Lions (0-1, 0-1) dropped a 43-38 decision at No. 17 Sam Houston State.

Saturday's game will be the 46th meeting all-time with McNeese holding a 25-20 lead. The Cowboys defeated the Lions 38-34 back on Oct. 5, 2019 in the last meeting which was played in Lake Charles.

ORGERON CLIMBING THE CAREER RECORD PASSING CHARTS
Quarterback Cody Orgeron became just the 11th quarterback in school history to pass for 3,000 yards in a career after his 202 total against UIW moved him to 3,148, ranking him ninth on the all-time list. He's 269 yards from passing Johnnie Thibodeaux (1972-75) for eighth.

WILSON, SCELFO HAVE FRIENDLY HISTORY
Cowboys' head coach Frank Wilson and SLU head coach Frank Scelfo have a long, friendly history between each other. The two were roommates at the Manning Passing Academy in the 90s when it was first getting started and held at Tulane. Then when Wilson was hired as the head coach at UTSA in 2016, he hired Scelfo as his offensive coordinator and quarterback coach where he stayed for two seasons before getting the head coaching job at SLU.

ABEL SPLITTING THE UPRIGHTS
Junior transfer kicker Jacob Abel came to McNeese after being considered one of the top kickers in the JUCO ranks. That seems to have carried to the Cowboys' squad. Two games in, Abel is a perfect 4 for 4 in field goals and 6 for 6 in extra-point kicks.

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
McNeese has not turned the ball over through the first two games and is one of only nine FCS teams in the nation to do so.
