McNeese women's basketball will make its 20th overall Southland Conference Tournament appearance Wednesday when the No. 9 seed Cowgirls open the women's side of the tournament in an 11 a.m. game against the No. 8 seed Houston Baptist at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. Both teams split the season series with each team winning on its home court.
 
The game will be aired live on ESPN+ and can be heard on talk1470.com with Bruce Merchant calling all the action.
 
The tournament appearance is the third under fifth year head coach Kacie Cryer. The Cowgirls also appeared in the tournament in Cryer's first two seasons as head coach.
 
McNeese (6-15, 6-8 SLC) heads into the tournament having lost its last five games including a 61-45 road loss at Houston Baptist on Feb. 27. The last Cowgirl win was a 73-55 home win against the Huskies on Feb. 22.
 
Junior Divine Tanks, who is the only Cowgirl named to the 2021 All-Southland Conference team as a third team selection, heads into the tournament averaging 10.3 ppg. and leads the team with 7.3 rpg.
 
Sophomore Kyla Hamilton leads the team with 10.7 ppg. and 64 assists. Hamilton averaged 12.9 ppg. and 3.5 apg. in league play this season.
 
HBU enters the tournament having won three of its last five games including a 78-70 home win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in its home finale last Saturday.
