Pokes visit LSU on Tuesday

BATON ROUGE – McNeese baseball will continue a busy stretch of its mid-season schedule on Tuesday when the Cowboys visit LSU at 6:30 at Alex Box Stadium.

The game will broadcast live on the SEC Network Plus stream.

Tuesday's game will be the fifth in seven days, and with the upcoming four-game home Southland Conference series, will mark a stretch of nine games in a 12-day span.

McNeese (14-13, 8-7 SLC) is coming off a 2-2 Southland Conference series split at first place Southeastern Louisiana as the Cowboys out-hit the Lions in three of the four games while matching SLU in the hits department in the other.

LSU (17-11, 1-8 SEC) is coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of top-ranked Vanderbilt over the weekend. The Tigers have dropped six of their last seven games and eight of 10 but are 15-3 at The Box outside of conference play.

Offensively, the Cowboys are ranked fourth in the league in team batting with a .279 average. Right fielder Clayton Rasbeary leads the way and is ranked third in the conference with a .382 mark. He's also tied for the league lead with 11 doubles with teammate Nate Fisbeck.

On the mound, McNeese is expected to see several arms during the game.

The Tigers are hitting .262 as a squad and are led by Dylan Crews' .367 average. LSU has blasted 46 home runs this season, nine by Cade Doughty. A total of 11 players have hit at least one homer this season.

The Cowboys have had the upper hand over the Tigers lately, winning three of the last four matchups including a 2-0 shutout win in the last outing in 2019 in Baton Rouge.

Following Tuesday's game, the Cowboys will return home to open up a four-game league series on Friday against Incarnate Word.
