BATON ROUGE –  McNeese softball (Southland, 34-24) will make its seventh overall postseason appearance and sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament Friday when the Cowgirls open the Baton Rouge Region at 3 p.m. CDT against the overall No. 7 seed LSU (SEC, 32-19). The game will be televised on ESPNU.
 
The double elimination tournament will have all four teams playing again on Saturday and a champion will be crowned on Sunday. The winner will advance to the Super Regional Tournament next weekend against the Tallahassee Regional winner.
 
The second game on Friday will feature No. 2 seed UL-Lafayette (Sun Belt Conference, 44-10) against George Washington (A-10 Conference, 37-9) at 5:30 p.m. CDT in a contest that will be streamed on ESPN3.The remainder the games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
Tiger Park will be at 100 percent capacity following the NCAA's announcement Wednesday.

McNeese is 4-12 overall in the regional tournament and it's the fourth time the Cowgirls will play in the Baton Rouge Region,
 
The Cowgirls, who earned the Southland's automatic bid last weekend by winning the Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed, enter the weekend with a nation's best 43 double plays turned.
 
It will be the second meeting against LSU for the Cowgirls this season. McNeese opened the 2021 season with an 8-0 (5 inn.) to the Tigers at the Tiger Classic on Feb. 11. A second game scheduled for April 13 in Lake Charles was cancelled due to rain.
