LAKE CHARLES- Cowgirls vs Ragin' Cajuns on a Friday night to kick off year six of the Drew Fitzgerald era. What's better than that?
The McNeese Cowgirls will welcome in-state rival UL-Lafayette in an exhibition match that will kick off at 6:30 p.m.
The Cowgirls have won the last two regular-season matchups against UL-Lafayette (2017 and 2018). However, this in-state rivalry will take place before the wins and losses count for the record books, thus providing a learning opportunity for both teams as they will finally play against someone else.
"It's about time to start playing against someone else and actually see where you're at. You start to look good against yourself in practice, but are you looking good, or is somebody looking bad, so we are excited to play on Friday" said Fitzgerald.
As students arrive back on campus, this "Back to School" match is the place to see all the action and get back out into the community.
Gary's Grub Hub will be available for attendees as a part of "Food Truck Friday" as well as raffle drawings, and additional giveaways.
Fans will be able to attend the match for free at Cowgirl Field. Streaming and live stats will be available online. For live updates be sure to follow @McNeeseSoccer on Twitter.
The Cowgirls will open the regular season against Jackson State on Aug. 19 (at 6 p.m.) followed by matches against Houston (Aug. 22), and Louisiana Tech (Aug. 27), each match at home.
