VB: Cowgirls Fall At #12 Baylor

WACO, Texas—McNeese couldn't match the experience of No. 12 Baylor, who's roster consists of several All-Americans and a transfer from the 2020 National Championship team from Kentucky here Saturday in its 3-0 loss to conclude play in the Baylor Classic.

McNeese (5-5) was led in kills by Aryn Johnson's 10 and Ceci Harness led all players with 19 assists. Jayln Gordon ended the match with a .333 hitting percent on six kills, two errors on 12 attempts.

Baylor (5-3) was led by All-American Yossiana Pressley who also had 10 kills and ended the match with a .571 hitting percent.

The Bears took advantage of four service errors in the opening set to jump out to an 8-4 lead. McNeese got as close as 14-10 on a service ace by Regan Stiawalt but five straight Baylor points extended the lead to 19-10.

In the second set, McNeese took its only lead (4-3) of the match on a service ace by Lizzy Low then a Baylor attacking error put the Cowgirls up 5-3.

The teams traded points for the next couple of plays and with the set tied at six, Baylor scored seven straight point to lead 12-6.  McNeese got within three points following a kill by Krpec and a Baylor error to cut the lead to 14-11. Baylor put together another run and outscored the Cowgirls 11-3 three the rest of the set.

In the final set, Baylor jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. McNeese got as close as eight points (20-12) by Johnson but it was too much of a deficit for the Cowgirls to overcome as Baylor went on to win the final set 25-16 to take the overall match.

McNeese will return home Tuesday to host Texas Southern in its final tune-up match before its Southland Conference opener at Houston Baptist next Saturday.
