HOUSTON- The McNeese Cowgirls continued their winning ways Thursday night defeating Houston Baptist 2-1 in Southland Conference play.
Sophomore forward Rachel Young played hero tonight as her two goals were all the scoring the Cowgirls needed. Young found herself in the right place at the right time on both goals as she displayed excellent reflexes and a high soccer IQ. The Cowgirl offense was on the attack throughout the match out-shooting the Huskies 8-2 on goal. Lead by Morgan Schooley, the energy of the defense was evident as the Pokes swarmed to every ball in their zone. The lone goal given up by Jackie Kelly was a header off a free kick that pin-balled around in the air until it found the net. Megan Mielke played a gritty 90 minutes after being shaken up in the last match.

McNeese Head Coach Drew Fitzgerald
"We had a tough travel day today but the team really responded. We talked about having no excuses and not letting all the distractions stop us from getting the job done. I was proud of how they stepped up. Rachel had a big night for us, but maybe overlooked was the impact Mariah had. She played limited minutes but served in the ball on both corners and gave us a lift when we needed it."
