TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— After a five hour delay due to weather, McNeese suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss against Florida A&M here Saturday in a match that was eventually moved to the Florida State Indoor Complex.
FAU (1-0) won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. With the Cowgirls (0-3) down one player in singles competition, the Rattlers picked up another point to lead 2-0. The Rattlers won another singles point and the Cowgirls won three singles points to even the match at three apiece.
Natalia Ballo,
Ariane Monlleo Sanchis, and
Yukina Abe won their singles matches to bring the overall match down to the no. 2 singles match between McNeese's
Matilde Mulatero and FAU's Haleigh Porter. The win for Sanchis is her first collegiate win.
Mulatero took the first set 6-2 but dropped the second set 7-5 to send the match to a third set. Porter won the third and final set 6-4 to clinch the overall match despite Matilde having several opportunities to win the set.
The Cowgirls will remain in Tallahassee for a noon match Sunday at #15 Florida State.
