LAKE CHARLES—Freshman midfielder
Matilde Tesgaard scored her second career goal that gave McNeese soccer the early lead over preseason favorite Northwestern State, but Lady Demons scored the equalizer that resulted in a 1-1 Southland Conference tie here Sunday.
Tesgaard put the Cowgirls up 1-0 in the 75
th minute with the first goal of the game off a header from
Carrie Kotoucek from the right side of the box.
Northwestern State, who pressured the Cowgirls all day, tied the game six minutes later with a goal from Taylor Spitzer off a cross from Gracie Armstrong.
"I thought we were on the defensive for most of the game, and that was ok. I thought we did a nice job of getting the goal on something we worked on this week and that's always good to see. I was a little disappointed we didn't hang on for the final eight minutes, but I think four points on the weekend is what we needed more than anything."
