VB: Cowgirls Defeat UNO Behind Solid Team Play

NEW ORLEANS—McNeese volleyball extended its winning streak to six matches and handed New Orleans (13-12, 7-6 SLC) its first home loss of the season here Saturday with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-22) Southland Conference win to remain co-leaders in the SLC standings.

"This was another solid team win," said Karelov. "The girls came up big for each other in crucial moments. I really enjoy coaching this group."

Kendall Glueck and Skyeler Embry led the Cowgirl offense in kills with 11 and 10, respectively.  For the second straight match, Embry recorded a double double, adding a career high 18 digs.  Glueck ended the match with a .375 hitting percent with two errors in 24 attempts.

"Skyeler (Embry) had another outstanding match. She was so consistent on both offense and defense and made several clutch plays at the end of the third set.

"Kendall (Glueck) mixed up her swings and stayed disciplined with her blocking. McKenzie (Moore) turned the ball both ways extremely well. Dejah (Dade) was aggressive dumping, which opened the court for our pins."

Solid blocking played a big part in the win as well with the Cowgirls picking up 10 team blocks. Freshman Sanni Rantanen led McNeese with three including the block on match point for the win.  Glueck and Dejah Dade were both credited with two apiece.

Setters Mia Perales and Dejah Dade were steady running the offense again today. Perales led all players with 23 assists while Dade added 10.

McNeese will return home next Tuesday to host Houston Christian at 6:30 p.m. in a match among the Southland's co-leaders.

SET 1
UNO scored the first point of the set but following a kill by Kendall Glueck to give McNeese a 2-1 lead, McNeese never looked back on its way to the first set win.  McNeese hit .357 in the set with 16 kills with one error on 42 attempts.

SET 2
McNeese took a 12-5 lead in the set but a rally by UNO brought them within one point 18-17 but the Cowgirls closed out the set on a 7-2 run to pick up the win for a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3
McNeese held the lead until UNO served for three service aces to take their first lead of the set 16-15. After a 17-17 tie, two straight points gave McNeese a 19-17 lead. With the set tied at 20, kills by Glueck and an UNO error put the Cowgirls up 23-20.  With McNeese leading 24-22, a block by Sanni Rantanen gave McNeese the 25-22 set win and the match.
