VB: Cowgirls Fall At Houston Christian

HOUSTON, Texas— Nejra Hanic led McNeese with 14 kills in a 3-0 (24-26, 19-25, 23-25) Southland Conference road loss at league leading Houston Christian Saturday.
 
The loss drops McNeese to 8-13 overall and 4-3 in the SLC while HCU improves to 15-6 overall and 6-1 in the SLC.
 
Joining Hanic in double figure kills was Mikayla Christiansen with 11. Mia Perales and Dejah Dade both recorded double figure assists with 20 and 12, respectively.
 
Bailey Tillman continued her stellar defense by picking up a match high 17 digs and Kendall Glueck led all players with five blocks.
 
McNeese will return home on Thursday, Oct. 13 to host Incarnate Word. 
 
 Set 1
With the set tied at 12 all, HCU scored three straight points to lead 15-12. McNeese put a run of their own and outscored the Huskies 7-3 to take a 19-18 lead. HCU scored two straight points to lead 23-21 but the Cowgirls came back to tie it 24 apiece on kills by Mikayla Christiansen and Sanni Rantanen but HCU scored the next two points to win the set.
 
Set 2
With the set tied at 8, HCU went on a 5-2 run to take a 13-10 lead. McNeese made a little run trailing 23-16, the Cowgirls scored three points to pull to within four (23-19) but following a timeout, HCU scored the next two points to win the set and a 2-0 lead.
 
Set 3
McNeese jumped out to a 9-5 lead but HCU rallied to tie the set at 10 then took an 19-14 lead. The Cowgirls rallied and went on a 7-1 run to take a 21-20 lead. HCU tied the match then took the lead for good after a service ace and kill by Audrey Pearce gave the Huskies a 23-21 lead. McNeese tied the set at 23 on a kill by Hanic and a HCU error. HCU closed out the set and the match with a kill and a service ace.
