COLLEGE STATION – McNeese runner Jacob Kipkogei narrowly missed out on advancing to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Friday morning when the junior finished 17^th at the 2022 NCAA South Central Region with a time of 31:14.8 in the 10k race.
 
His efforts earned him All-Region honors while leading the Cowboys to an 11^th place team finish. It was the highest finish for a Cowboy runner since Nathan Jones finished 10^th at the 2018 regional meet.
 
"Jacob ran a superb race," said head coach Brendon Gilroy.
 
Arkansas won the men's title with 49 points while Texas finished second with 55. Both teams will advance to next week NCAA Championship Meet in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The next four individuals not associated with those teams also advance to the title run.
 
Kipkogei was ninth among those runners, finishing 31 seconds behind the fourth spot.
 
All-SLC runner Omer El-Fadl placed 38^th with a time of 31:56.1 while Gilbert Kimutai finished 42^nd at 32:05.5 to give McNeese three finishes in the top 50. Other Cowboy runners had James Hyland clocking a 34:31.6 and Abdullah Elkhair at 35:54.3.
 
A young Cowgirls team battled for a 24^th place finish led by Pamela Kosgei who finished 95^th with a time of 22:52.7 in the 6k race. Sorcha Moloney followed in 97^th place at 22:53.5. Ciara Gilroy clocked a 23:17.6, Grace Sullivan a 23:32.9, Jasmine Perez 23:33.2, Irene Barreiro-Lopez 23:43.0, and Bonnie Andres 23:52.4.
 
Arkansas won the women's team title with 49 points while Texas placed second with 102 points.
