WBB: Cowgirls Fall To Arkansas State

LAKE CHARLES—Arkansas State shot lights out in the first quarter here Tuesday night on its way to a 102-83 women's basketball win over McNeese.
 
The Red Wolves (4-3) opened the game making 16 of its 21 shots from the field for a 76.2 shooting percent including 7 of 9 from behind the arc to lead 42-19 after the first quarter.  Arkansas State ended the game making a season high 11 three-pointers on 29 attempts.
 
"We didn't play very good defense and we didn't block out in the first quarter, but I did like our effort the last three quarters," said head coach Lynn Kennedy.
 
McNeese (1-6) who has several players recovering from injuries and or recovering from the flu, shot 53.8 percent from the field in the opening quarter, making 7 of 13 of its shots.
 
The Cowgirls outscored the Red Wolves 44-36 in the next two quarters to trail 78-63 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
McNeese cut the lead to 13 points early in the fourth quarter and had a chance to cut it to 10 points, but a Cowgirl missed three-pointer resulted in Arkansas State scoring the next four points to up the lead to 17 points.  The Cowgirls ended up being outscored 24-20 in the quarter.  
 
Paris Mullins led a trio of Cowgirls with a career high 20 points while Divine Tanks chipped in with a season high 17 points.  For the third straight game, Kaili Chamberlin scored in double figures, ending the game with 13 points.
 
Arkansas State placed six players in double figure scoring with Keya Patton leading the Red Wolves with 20 points.  Izzy Higginbottom added 18, Lauryn Pendleton scored 15, Mailyn Wilkerson scored 12, and Annaliese Griffin and Jade Upshaw ended the night with 10 apiece.
 
McNeese will remain home to host North American University this Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
