Pokes visit Southern Miss at 2 on Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi - The McNeese Cowboys will conclude its pre-Southland Conference schedule this week, beginning on Sunday at Southern Mississippi.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will broadcast on the McNeese Radio Network (Magic 92.1 FM or mymagiclc.com) and also on ESPN+.

Last time out:
• McNeese dropped a 78-70 decision to ULL in the Legacy Center on Thursday night.
Trae English led the Cowboys with 24 points, his second 20-point game of the season and third in his career.
Christian Shumate added 16 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double on the season and ninth in his career.
• Southern Miss defeated Lamar 91-65 last Tuesday in Beaumont.

Series:
• Sunday's game will be the 22nd all-time meeting with USM holding a 14-7 advantage.
• The two teams last met on Dec. 31, 2011 in Lake Charles with the Golden Eagles leaving with a 65-56 win.
• McNeese's last win over USM came on Dec. 23, 2007 in Hattiesburg by a 63-57 score.

• Shumate is one of only two players in the Southland to average a double-double (11.3 pts, 10.1 reb).
• Shumate is ranked No. 2 in the SLC and 17th in NCAA with 10.1 rebounds per game; 2nd in SLC and 23rd in NCAA with four double-doubles; 2nd in SLC and 13th in NCAA with 3.7 offensive rebounds per game; and 2nd in SLC and 13th in NCAA with 111 total rebounds.
• Against ULL, Shumate scored 10 of his 16 points off the offensive glass.
Roberts Berze has hit 11 of 22 from 3FG range the last five games, all coming off the bench.
• McNeese is 2nd in SLC and 30th in NCAA with 13.0 offensive rebounds per game.

• Southern Miss. will enter the game with a 10-1 record with its only loss coming at the hands of Southland foe Northwestern State, 84-82, in Natchitoches on Dec. 4.

• Mercer graduate transfer Filipe Haase is a preseason All-Sun Belt Conference 2nd team selection.
• Haase leads USM in both scoring (17.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg).
