 LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball returns to the Legacy Center this week to close out its home slate against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday and Incarnate Word on Saturday in its home finale.
 
McNeese (11-13, 6-5) will carry a two-game winning streak into Thursday's contest against the Southland's first place team in the Islanders who enter the game 11-7, 9-1 SLC.
 
The Cowgirls sit in fourth place in the league standings, two games behind third place Southeastern following its road wins over Nicholls and New Orleans last week.
 
McNeese fell 72-61 at TAMU-CC on Jan. 20 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams. McNeese cut a double digit deficit down to a two possession game late in the final period but the Islanders scored their final six points from the free throw line to claim the win.
 
The Cowgirls carry the league's top scoring offense into the game, averaging 70.0 ppg. in conference games. Desirae Hansen ranks second in the SLC in 3-pt. field goal percent (43.9) and 3-pt. field goals per game (2.6). She carries a team best 11.0 ppg. scoring average while Kaili Chamberlin is second on the team with 10.8 ppg. Chamberlin also ranks second in the SLC with an 86.7 free throw percent.
 
Divine Tanks continues to lead McNeese with 7.5 rpg., ranking her fourth in the SLC.
 
The Islanders have won their last six games and 12 of their last 13 with their lone conference loss coming in a 48-43 road loss at Southeastern. TAMU-CC heads into the game with the top defense in the league, holding its opponents to 51.8 ppg. and have the third best scoring offense, averaging 61.6 ppg.
 
Makinna Serrata leads the Islanders with 14.1 ppg., including 16.9 ppg. in league. Serrata ranks third in the SLC in scoring and fourth field goal percentage (.496).
 
Alecia Westbrook is averaging a double double (10.5 rpg., 12.6 rpg.). She leads the SLC in rebounding and is third in steals (2.1 spg.), and field goal percentage (.496).
 
Violeta Veran leads the league in assists with 4.6 per game and has dished out at least a pair of assists in every game this season. Verano is also averaging 10.5 ppg. in conference.
 
 NEXT GAME
Following Thursday's game, the Cowgirls will close out its home slate against Incarnate Word. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN+. It is also senior day for the Cowgirls and McNeese will recognize graduate transfer Lana Skripkina prior to the game.
