UNLV Victorious Over Cowgirls In Day Two of The Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitational II

LAKE CHARLES – A shortage of two out hits led McNeese softball to a 3-0 loss to University of Nevada Las Vegas Friday evening in the second day of The Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitational II.

The Cowgirls (6-6) will be back in action Saturday against Manhattan College at 4:45 p.m. and Memphis at 7 p.m.

Although the Cowgirls had runners on second and third base twice during the second and fourth innings, McNeese was unable to score against UNLV (9-2). The Rebels were led by Mia Trejo whose three RBIs led the team to victory.

"We were able to get some traffic on the bases a couple times but weren't able to get the two out hit," said Head Coach James Landreneau. "The bottom line is if we are going to start winning games then we will have to start executing to have the opportunity to get a bunt down and scratch a run.

I want to see us come out with more urgency at the plate to create stress early in the game, and scratch a couple of runs to give our defense and pitching a little bit of relief. "

Key moments:

  • A single RBI by Mia Trejo scored the first run of the game

  • Cowgirls got runners on second and third in the bottom of the second and fourth innings, but left the runners stranded

  • An RBI double by Trejo in the top of the fifth inning brought the score to 2-0

  • Trejo hit the third and final RBI, bringing the final score to 3-0 in the top of the seventh inning
