Louisiana Tech Claims Victory Over McNeese, Vallejo Receives SLC POW

LAKE CHARLES – A big four run third inning was enough momentum to propel Louisiana Tech (10-6) to a 6-1 victory over McNeese (8-7) at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond Tuesday afternoon.  

"We were beat in every phase of the game. Our team is not playing at the level we are capable of playing," said head coach James Landreneau. "We are playing very passively, and I would like to see us be a more aggressive team. " 


Key Moments: 

Third inning 

  • Louisiana Tech scored four runs on four hits inclduing two consecutive RBI doubles to take an early 4-0 lead   

Fifth inning 

  • Brooke Diaz' leadoff solo home run increased the Louisiana Tech lead to 5-0

Sixth inning 

Seventh inning 

  • Louisiana Tech got the run back on a solo home run by Lin Edwards to extend its lead to 6-1  


Game Notes: 

  • Poullard led the Cowgirls with two hits and the only Cowgirl RBI in the game 

  • McNeese picked up six hits while Louisiana Tech had eight 

  • Five of the eight La. Tech hits were extra base hits (three doubles, two home runs)

  • Cowgirl pitcher Whitney Tate (1-4) took the loss after giving up four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings 

  • Reliever Ashley Vallejo entered the circle in the top of the third inning and allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

  • La. Tech's  Audrey Pickett improved to 7-2 on the year with the win, allowing one run on six hits in the complete game victory. 


Ashley Vallejo Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week 

Sophomore Vallejo picked up her second Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, announced the league Tuesday afternoon. The New Waverly, Texas native gave up two runs off six hits during fourteen innings this past weekend. Earning a .64 ERA and 14 strikeouts, she was key to the victory over Memphis and creating a competitive 1-0 game against Sam Houston. 
 

Next Game: 

The Cowgirls will close out the week by hosting Tarleton State in a single game Friday, March 4 at 6:30 before concluding the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, March 5.
