NATCHITOCHES – Following a 10-game home stand, the first place McNeese Cowgirls will travel to Northwestern State for a Southland Conference three-game clash against the league's No. 2 team beginning Thursday at 6.
The series will conclude with a 1 o'clock double-header. The series moved up a day due to the Easter weekend holiday.
McNeese (24-15, 8-1 SLC) has won 13 of its last 14 games while the Lady Demons (24-15, 6-3) have won seven of 10 but have dropped two straight, those coming to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last weekend.
The Cowgirls won the series 2-1 last season and are 9-5 against the Lady Demons under head coach James Landreneau.
McNeese is coming off a 2-1 Southland Conference series win over Southeastern last weekend, posting back-to-back wins of 4-0 and 9-3 after dropping the series opener 6-1.
Jil Poullard continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .389 batting average, a .756 slugging percentage, 22 walks, nine doubles, six home runs, and 32 RBI. In conference play, Poullard leads the SLC with a .957 slugging percentage 12 RBI, and two triples. Alayis Seneca, Poullard, and Kendall Tally are all tied with a team-high of 35 hits apiece. Talley leads the team with 35 runs scored and is second on the team with a .354 batting average, a .545 slugging percentage, and six doubles. Toni Perrin has stolen a team-high of 13 bases.
Shaelyn Sanders (6-1) leads the Cowgirls' pitching staff with a 1.99 ERA with one save during her 59.2 innings of action. With a 2.63 ERA and 95.2 innings of action in the circle, Ashley Vallejo (9-6) leads the Cowgirls with 76 strikeouts.
This past weekend, Northwestern State won the opening game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before dropping the final two to lose the series.
Laney Roos leads the Lady Demons with a .384 batting average, a .584 slugging percentage, 25 runs scored, and 48 hits. Roos leads the SLC with 14 hits in conference play.
With a 2.33 ERA Sage Hoover (9-4) leads the Lady Demons' pitching staff with five saves and 145 strikeouts in 96.0 innings of work. Hoover leads the SLC with 32 strikeouts during conference play. Bronte Rohoden has the lowest ERA at 2.02 in 45.0 innings pitched.
