LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball will return to Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. to take on #21 LSU. The game will broadcast on Yurview.
McNeese (26-16) has won 15 out of its last 17 games and is coming off a 2-1 Southland Conference series win at Northwestern State last weekend. LSU (27-16), who is ranked #21 in the nation, has won five out of their last six games and is coming off a series sweep over South Carolina.
"What we are looking for is to show that we can compete well and show that we can bring back some consistency," said head coach James Landreneau. "We know that we are going to face an outstanding lineup and an outstanding pitching staff. We want our team to show up and play to the best of our capabilities."
Jil Poullard continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .378 batting average, a .714 slugging percentage, 24 walks, nine doubles, six home runs, and 33 RBI. Alayis Seneca, Poullard, and Kendall Tally are all tied with a team-high of 37 hits apiece. Talley leads the team with 35 runs scored and is second on the team with a .339 batting average, a .514 slugging percentage, and six doubles. Toni Perrin has stolen a team-high of 15 bases.
Shaelyn Sanders (6-2) leads the Cowgirls' pitching staff with a 2.08 ERA, earning one save during her 64.0 innings of action. With a 2.42 ERA, one save, and 104.0 innings of action in the circle, Ashley Vallejo (10-6) leads the Cowgirls with 82 strikeouts.
Danieca Coffey leads the Tigers with a .389 batting average and 51 hits. Georgia Clark leads with 46 RBI and 27 walks. Shelbi Sunseri has the highest slugging percentage at .696 and leads the team with 13 home runs.
In the circle, Ali Kilponen (14-4) leads the Tigers with a 2.17 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 112.2 innings.
The Tigers hold a 23-3 overall series record and have won the last 10 meetings . The last McNeese win over LSU was a 2-1 victory in Baton Rouge in 2014 and the last win over the Tigers in Lake Charles was a 4-3 victory in 2009.
