LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's soccer (1-1-0) will travel to Mobile, Alabama this weekend to take part in the South Alabama Tournament. Thursday's game will now be played inside Hancock Whitney Stadium while Sundays game will be played at The Cage.
 
McNeese will open play against Troy (0-2-0) in a 4 p.m. game on Thursday. The Cowgirls will end their weekend with a 3 p.m. Sunday game against South Alabama (2-0-0).
 
McNeese Notes
•- Cowgirls opened their season with a 1-0 win over Sam Houston with a goal by Rachel Young in the 85'
•- McNeese is coming off an 8-0 road loss at Texas A&M last Sunday. Young also leads the team with three shots
•- McNeese has played three goalies this season (Jackie Kelly, Briana O'Dell, Kelly Hines). O'Dell and Hines saw their first action of the season against Texas A&M.
•- Head coach Drew Fitzgerald enters his seventh season as head coach and carries a 61-43-2 career record
•- McNeese is coming off a program tying 13 wins (13-5-2) and a second place finish in the Southland Conference with a 9-2-1 record
•- The Cowgirls were picked to finish second in the 2022 SLC preseason poll, receiving one first place vote
•- McNeese placed five on the SLC preseason team : Kiana Kukaua, Rachel Young, and Jackie Kelly were named to the first team while Morgan Schooley and Megan Mielke were named to the second team
•- McNeese returns 18 players from a year ago along with 11 newcomers, nine of which are freshmen.
•- The Cowgirls lost three of their top four scorers from last season
•- Rachel Young, led the Cowgirls with seven goals last season as a sophomore
•- The Cowgirls also return their top goalkeeper in sophomore Jacki Kelly. Kelly posted an 8-3-1 record in 2021 with 47 saves and three shutouts as a rookie.
•- McNeese will have eight home games including six SLC home games
•- The Cowgirls will host Sam Houston, Southern, Southeastern, Texas A&M-Commerce, Nicholls, Northwestern State, Houston Baptist, and Incarnate Word in home games.
