HOUSTON, Texas—McNeese volleyball fell in straight sets (15-25, 13-25, 17-25) to a Rice, a team that advanced to the last four NCAA Tournament's and entered Tuesday night's match receiving votes in this week's AVCA Top 25 poll.
McNeese (1-6) was led in kills by
Kendall Glueck who ended the match with 10 while the SLC's Defensive Player of the Week,
Bailey Tillman led the Cowgirls with 22 digs.
Rice improved to 6-1 on the year with the win. The Owls had two players with double figure kills and were led by Satasha Kostelecky's 11 kills. Danyle Courtley was right behind with 10 kills. Three Rice players picked up at least 10 digs with Nia McCardell leading the way with 20.
McNeese will remain on the road and will take part in its third tournament this season when they will travel to San Antonio this weekend to take part in the UTSA Invitational.
Set 1
• The match started out back and forth before Rice went on a run to take a 14-9
• McNeese got within three points (14-17) but Rice ended the set by outscoring McNeese 8-1
Set 2
• Rice took a 5-1 lead but McNeese scored three straight points to cut the lead to 5-4
• Cowgirls outscore Rice 6-4 to take a 10-9 lead
• Rice scored five straight points including back-to-back extended its lead to 16-11 and ended the set on a 9-2 run.
Set 3
• McNeese took an early 6-1 lead but following a Rice timeout, the Owls scored seven straight to take an 8-6 lead.
• Rice would slowly increase its lead and ended the match by scoring five of the final eight points
