WBB: Cowgirls Pick Up 69-54 Win Over HCU

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball snapped a two game losing streak with a 69-54 win over Houston Christian University here Saturday in what was the Cowgirls' most complete game of the season.
 
McNeese (5-11, 2-3 SLC) placed three players in double figure scoring for the third straight game.  Zuzanna Kulinska led the Cowgirls with 14 points while Desirae Hansen scored 11, and Paris Mullins came off the bench to score 10 points.
 
The Cowgirls shot 48.1 percent from the field (26-54) including 7 of 12 three-pointers.  The Cowgirls also dished out 19 assists and committed a season low 11 turnovers, something that has plagued the Cowgirls all season.
 
The Cowgirls outscored the Huskies 42-31 in the second half and took its largest lead of the game 64-49 following a Kaili Chamberlin jumper with 3:46 to play.
 
HCU (7-9, 2-3 SLC) also placed three players in double figures and was led by Abbey Sutherland's game high 19 points.  N'Denasija Collins scored 13 points and Kennedy Wilson ended the game with 10.
 
HCU held a 13-9 first quarter lead but the Cowgirls' defense stepped up int the second quarter and turned the HCU turnovers into points.  The Cowgirls outscored the Huskies 13-4 in the final 6:40 left in the second quarter to take a 27-23 halftime lead.  The Cowgirls started an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the game. A layup by Kulinska, a three by Hansen, and another layup by Mullins put the Cowgirls up 22-19 with 2:41 left in second  quarter. 
 
The Cowgirls started the second half off by scoring the first seven points of the half to lead 30-23.  HCU got as close as three points at the end of the third quarter before free throws by Kulinska and Le'Shenae Stubblefield  and a layup by Stubblefield as the quarter ended gave the Cowgirls a 48-39 lead.
 
McNeese led 57-44 following a Christina Gil three-pointer with 7:14 to play.
