Cowboys host Colonels for Round 2 on Saturday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese will host Nicholls for round two of the team's season series and just two days apart when the two collide in Southland Conference play on Saturday on Joe Dumars Court in the Legacy Center.
 
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30. ESPN Plus will broadcast the game live.
 
WHAT'S ON TAP:
McNeese will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak while also attempting a put an end to a six-game skid to the Colonels.
 
Nicholls extended its winning streak over the Cowboys on Thursday night with a 73-64 win in Thibodaux.
 
The Cowboys currently sit in a tie for eighth place in a very tight Southland Conference standings board. McNeese (5-14 overall, 2-4 SLC) is tied with Lamar but just two games behind Nicholls (9-9, 4-2) who is one of four teams tied at the top.
 
ABOUT McNEESE:
The Cowboys have five players averaging double-digit scoring in conference games only. ­­
 
Zach Scott leads the way with 15.2 points per game. He's followed by Harwin Francois at 13.8, Christian Shumate 13.0, Trae English 12.8 and Johnathan Massie 10.5.
 
McNeese is fourth in scoring in league games only with 78.8 points. The 64 points scored at Nicholls were the fewest in conference action this season. The Cowboys are also second in shooting at 47.3 percent but are second to last in opponent shooting, who is knocking down 48.4 percent of its shots.
 
The Cowboys are better in league games in taking care of the ball, averaging 12.8 turnovers per game, second fewest in the league while forcing 14.2 turnovers to their opponents.
 
ABOUT NICHOLLS:
The Colonels are the two-time defending conference regular season champions, looking to make it three-in-a-row which would be the first time for a league team since the late 70s by Lamar.
 
The Colonels remained perfect at home (7-0) with their win over the Cowboys on Thursday but are just 1-8 on the road with the lone win being at Texas A&M-Commerce (66-63) back on Jan. 5.
 
The Colonels' Caleb Huffman is seventh in the conference in scoring in league games only at 16.5 points per game. Huffman scored 15 against the Cowboys on Thursday. Overall, Huffman is seventh with a 15.4 scoring average.
 
HALL OF FAME RECOGNITION:
The McNeese Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be recognized at halftime of the game. The newest members include softball's Jamie Allred and Emily Vincent and football's Jose Larios, Diontae Spencer and Steven Whitehead.
 
The newest inductees will meet with the fans in between the women's and men's game in the CITGO Poke Plaza, located on the third level in the Legacy Center overlooking Joe Dumars Court.
 
NEXT UP:
The Cowboys will hit the road for two straight games at UIW (Jan. 26) and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 28) before returning home on Feb. 2 against Lamar for the Battle of the Border matchup.
