LAKE CHARLES- McNeese women's basketball extended its winning streak to three games Saturday with a 70-62 win over Nicholls. It was the second straight win over the Colonels in two days after the Cowgirls defeated the Colonels 77-68 in Thibodaux on Thursday.
McNeese (7-11, 4-3 SL) was led in scoring by
Desirae Hansen's 14 points including four 3-pointers. Hansen scored 11 of her 14 points in the second half.
Kaili Chamberlin ended the game with 11 points.
Nicholls (4-14, 1-6 SLC) was led in scoring by Deonna Brister who led all players with 22 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Colonels was
Kyla Hamilton (19) and Lexi Alexander (11)).
McNeese jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game but the Colonels put together a 12-1 run to pull to within one point (17-16) to end the quarter.
Nicholls continued its scoring run in the second quarter by outscoring the Cowgirls 19-10 in the quarter to lead 35-27 at the half.
McNeese opened the second half strong like the first half by scoring the first seven points to pull to within one point (35-34). The Cowgirls' defense came up big in the quarter that allowed the Cowgirls to go on a 13-5 run to take a 47-39 with 3:21 left in the quarter but once again Nicholls responded with a 12-3 run to take a 51-50 third quarter lead.
With the scored tied at 53, McNeese went on a 9-1 run sparked by back-to-back Hansen three's to give the Cowgirls a 62-54 lead with four minutes to play. The upped its lead to 11 points on a
Divine Tanks layup with 1:39 left.
