LAKE CHARLES – McNeese women's basketball returns to the Legacy Center on Thursday, Jan. 5 to host Northwestern State in its Southland Conference home opener. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.Â
Â
A new tradition called "Thirsty Thursdays" will begin where adults 21 yrs. and older will be able to purchase $1 draft beer at the specially designated Beer Garden every Thursday home game this season.
Â
McNeese (3-9, 0-1 SLC) and NW State (4-7, 0-1 SLC) will both be looking for their first SLC win of the season.

The Cowgirls are coming off an 82-61 SLC opening road loss at Lamar and the Lady Demons fell 65-50 at home against preseason favorite Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday.

• It's Joe Dumars Day. McNeese will officially name the Legacy Center Court- the Joe Dumars Court prior to the men's game.

• It's also Thirsty Thursday....$1 dollar draft beer for adults 21 and older. This new tradition will continue every home game on Thursday's this season in the specifically designated Beer Garden located on the fourth level, or Citgo Plaza.

• McNeese was picked to finish 6th in the preseason poll while NW State was picked 8th.

• NW State leads the all-time series 60-34

• McNeese has won three of the last four meetings

• The teams split the series last year, winning on its own home court. McNeese defeated NW State 77-60 in Lake Charles on Feb. 5, 2022 while NW State defeated the Cowgirls 90-72 on Feb. 12, 2022 in Natchitoches in the last meeting between the two teams.

• McNeese has had eight different scoring leaders in its first 11 games of the season.

Cristina Gil returned to the court at Lamar last Saturday after missing the last 10 games due to an injury she suffered in the first game of the season.

Zuzanna Kulinska has scored in double figures in four of the last five games. Kulinska enters the game averaging 7.8 ppg.

Stephanie Guihon has scored in double figures in three of the last four games and is coming off a season tying game high 17 points at Lamar. Guihon also recorded a career high six steals against the Cardinals.

Paris Mullins leads the Cowgirls in scoring with 9.8 ppg.

Divine Tanks continues to lead the Cowgirls in rebounds with 5.3 per contest
