McNeese drops to 0-6 after 41-10 loss to TAMUC

COMMERCE, Texas – McNeese held a 3-0 lead over Texas A&M-Commerce after the first quarter of Saturday night's Southland Conference game, holding a 130-29 advantage in total offense with half of those coming from running back D'Angelo Durham runs.

Then an early second quarter injury to Durham sidelined him for the remainder of the game and the momentum shifted as Commerce scored 41 unanswered points and outgained McNeese 441-150 the final three quarters on its way to a 41-10 win.

McNeese scored its lone touchdown on a 3-yard run by Joshon Barbie with 44 seconds to play to cap the scoring.

The loss handed McNeese (0-6, 0-2) its sixth straight loss, the first in school history, while Commerce (1-4, 1-1) won for the first time on the season.

McNeese will be open next week before returning home on October 21 against Incarnate Word.

Durham had 57 of his 67 first-half yards in the first quarter, running the ball 10 times with his first going for 31 yards. He was injured late in the first quarter but returned with under five minutes to play in the second when he picked up eight yards on back-to-back rushes, then exited the game for good with McNeese trailing 14-3.

McNeese took a 3-0 lead after a 28-yard Garrison Smith field goal midway through the first quarter. The Cowboys had to settle for the field goal despite facing a first down at the Commerce 12 and led by three after one quarter.

The Lions scored both of their first half touchdowns in the second half and just 3 ½ minutes apart and in back-to-back possessions.

Ra'veion Hargrove scored both TDs, the first on a 7-yard run with 9:41 to play in the quarter that capped a 10-play, 91-yard drive. The Lions obtained the ball after the Cowboys failed on a 4th-and-1 at the Lions 10.

After forcing McNeese to punt the ball away, Hargrove split the middle untouched for a 49-yard score.

TAMUC was attempting to score more points before the end of the half but a long ball by quarterback Josh Magana was intercepted by Cowboys' defensive back Joe Ward with 40 seconds to go in the half.

The Lions scored 27 points in the third quarter to build a 41-3 lead. Two of their three TDs in the quarter followed Cowboy fumbles.

Ryan Roberts, who replaced starting quarterback Nate Glantz in the third quarter with the game out of reach, drove the Cowboys 11 plays and 84 yards on their final drive of the game, ending with Barbie's touchdown run.

Commerce held a 470-280 advantage in total offense and threw for 312 yards as quarterback Josh Magana completed 12 of 21 passes for 266 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

For the Cowboys, Glantz completed 10 of 18 passes for 111 yards and an interception while Roberts completed 12 of 19 passes for 105 yards.

Durham ran for 67 yards on 13 carries and Makhi Paris caught four passes for 61 yards to lead the team.

Defensively, Micah Davey finished with 11 tackles, a sack and two tackles for a loss to lead the Cowboys.
