LAKE CHARLES-  McNeese women's basketball will ring in the New Year on Sunday, Dec. 31 when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. at the Legacy Center.
 
It will be the fourth overall meeting between the two teams with McNeese leading the series 2-1.  McNeese has won the last two meetings including a 65-60 win in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on Nov. 9, 2021, in head coach Lynn Kennedy's first win as head coach of the Cowgirls.
 
Both teams enter the contest with a 4-8 record and it's the final non-conference game for the Cowgirls before opening Southland Conference play at Northwestern State on Jan. 4
 
The Cowgirls are still searching for its first Division I win following its Dec. 16 home loss to Tarleton State.
 
Emilia Tenbrock and Mireia Yespes are both averaging in double figures.  Tenbrock is averaging 12.7 ppg. and Yespes is averaging 10.5 ppg.  Julia Puente leads McNeese with 5.0 rpg.
 
UAPB has wins over SMU and most recently at Arkansas on Dec. 10.  The Lady Lions are coming off a 62-47 home loss to Ole Miss on Dec. 21 before their holiday break.
 
Zaay Green, a graduate transfer guard from Texas A&M leads UAPB in scoring (19.3 ppg.), rebounds (7.3 rpg.) and assists (6.2 apg.)
