WBB: Cowgirls Host Second Place Islanders Saturday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese women's basketball will look to put a halt to its three-game losing skid this Saturday when the Cowgirls host second place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  Tipoff is 1 p.m. at the Legacy Center and will stream on ESPN3.
 
The Cowgirl coaching staff has designated Saturday as their Equality & Inclusion game, which is a national campaign throughout college basketball. The purpose is to keep the fight for equality in the national spotlight. The Cowgirl coaching staff will wear all black to display their unity and an equal sign lapel pin to symbolize equality.
 
McNeese (9-16, 6-8 SLC) enters the game in a four-way tie for fifth place in the league standings with four games remaining following its 69-45 home loss to Incarnate Word on Thursday.
 
The Islanders defeated the Cowgirls 78-61 in Corpus Christi on Jan. 28 in a game in which TAMU-CC outscored the Cowgirls in every quarter and shot 45.2 percent from the field.  McNeese ended the game shooting 37.5 percent from the field.
 
Paris Mullens continues to come off the bench to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 9.3 ppg. while Divine Tanks continues to lead the team with 6.1 rpg.
 
TAMU-CC (15-10, 10-48 SLC) enters the game in second place, one game out of first place Southeastern. The Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak with Thursday's 59-50 win at Nicholls to clinch an SLC Tournament berth.
 
Makinna Serrata and Alecia Westbrook lead the Islanders in scoring with 12.6 ppg., and 12.4 ppg., respectively.  Westbrook also averages 10.2 rpg.
 
NOTES
- McNeese will look snap a three-game losing streak following its 69-45 home loss to UIW on Thursday.
- McNeese has lost five of its last six games and are in a three-way fifth place tie with UIW, HCU, and NW State.
 - TAMU-CC holds a 12-9 series record over the Cowgirls.  McNeese has lost five of the last six games against the Islanders including a 78-61 loss in Corpus Christi, Texas in its first meeting this season on Jan. 28.
  - McNeese leads the league in steals (9.7) and defensive rebounds (26.6), are second in field goal percent (42.9) and assists (14.6), third in scoring (64.4), and fourth in 3-pt. field goal percent (30.8) and blocks (3.3).
- Paris Mullins continues to come off the bench to lead McNeese in scoring (9.3 ppg.). 
- Divine Tanks continues to lead the team with 6.1 rpg.  She moved into fourth place in McNeese career rebound leaders with 10 against Southeastern on Feb. 9.
- Desirae Hansen leads the SLC in 3 pt. FG made per game with 2.4 per game and is second in the league with a 44.7 three-point field goal percent in SLC games.  She also ranks third in the SLC with 3.7 assists per game. Hansen scored 13 points against Southeastern on Feb. 9 to reach her 1500th career point.
- Alicja Falkowska ranks second in blocks with 1.5 in SLC games.
-Le'Shenae Stubblefield ranks second in steals (2.8) in SLC games.
