ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington was able to avoid being swept by McNeese on Sunday as the Mavs escaped with a 12-6 win over the Cowboys.
Despite the loss, McNeese (3-4) won its first series of the season two-games-to-one. UTA improved to 2-6 on the year with the win.
McNeese will return to action on Tuesday night when it hosts long-time rival UL Lafayette at 6 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark, then will welcome George Washington for a weekend series beginning Friday.
Cowboy starting pitcher
Zach Voss (0-2) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. McNeese fielded six pitchers in the game.
UTA powered 12 hits with four of those going for extra bases.
Notebook:
• A day after slugging a season-high 17 hits, McNeese was tamed a bit at the plate with eight base knocks.

Cooper Hext recorded his fourth straight two-hit game after going 2-for-4.
• Hext belted a home run in his second straight game and is now tied for the team lead on the season with
Josh Leslie at two.
• Hext led off the game with a solo home run and after UTA tied it at 101 in the bottom of the third, the Cowboys grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Leslie hit a lead-off double then later scored off a sacrifice fly from Tré Obregon III.
• UTA went up 4-2 off a three-run, two-out home run by Crowell in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.
• Obregon hit a two-out, RBI single in the fifth to score Leslie, who reached on a fielding error by the UTA first baseman.
• The Mavs scored six runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-3 lead. Five of those runs were unearned as UTA took advantage of a Cowboy error, wild pitch and passed ball in the frame.

Payton Harden hit a two-run single in the seventh and in the ninth inning, 1B Elliott Hebert scored on a sac fly by Leslie to complete the scoring.
