LAKE CHARLES—For the second straight day, Ole Miss jumped out to an early lead over McNeese and went on to pick up a 7-2 win on the final day of the Cowgirl II classic Sunday.
McNeese (10-5) allowed the Ole Miss (9-5) to score four runs on five hits in the first inning then the Rebels added two more in the second on three hits to lead 6-0.
Freshman
Lindsay Davis (2-1) got off to a rocky start and was replaced by
Whitney Tate when the seventh Ole Miss batter came to the plate. Tate held the Rebels to three runs in 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts in relief.
McNeese got on the board in the fifth inning when
Brooke Otto singled to left and scored on a RBI double to left center by
Corine Poncho for the first Cowgirl run of the game.
Erin Ardoin drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Ardoin later scored on a
Chloe Gomez single to right center.
McNeese was held to four hits in the game with Poncho, Gomez, Muñoz, and Otto picking up one hit apiece.
Ole Miss ended the game with 12 hits with Mya Stevenson, Keila Kamoku, Aynslie Furbush, a and Jalia Lassiter all collecting two hits apiece.
McNeese will remain home to host Grambling in a single on Wednesday with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
