WTEN: Cowgirls Host UNO, Nicholls In SLC Opening Weekend

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis will open Southland Conference action this weekend, a day early than previously scheduled due to the anticipation of rain.
 
McNeese (10-2, 0-0 SLC), will open conference play at 2 p.m. Thursday against UNO and will host Nicholls at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
 
The Cowgirls will look to extend its three-match winning streak following its 5-2 win against Bradley on March 13.
 
Freshman Maria Martinez Wang leads the Cowgirls with an 11-1 singles record and has won her last six matches, playing most of her matches on either Court 5 or Court 6.  Wang is 6-1 in doubles play having played with three different partners this season.
 
Emma-Lou Pommiers, the Cowgirls No. 1 singles player is 7-1 on the year, enters the weekend having won her last four matches.
 
UNO (7-4, 0-1 SLC) will enter Thursday's match with a head start in conference play having dropped its Southland Conference opening match by the score of 4-3 at home against Nicholls on Monday.
 
The Privateers are led by freshman Didi Bredberg Canizares who is undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record as their No. 1 player.
 
Nicholls (9-7, 1-0 SLC) will play at Lamar Friday before facing McNeese on Saturday.  Carla Bouygues leads the Colonels with a 10-5 record, seeing action all but the No. 2 singles.  Dareen Hassan is 10-4 on the season while Constanza Cruz is 9-6 overall.
