SB: Cowgirls Fall At #24 UL-Lafayette

LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese softball stayed with #24 UL-Lafayette for the first four innings but the Cajuns scored four runs in the fifth on its way to a 6-2 win over the Cowgirls Wednesday night.

McNeese (13-8) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Kelsey Gaspard that brought Chloe Gomez across the plate for the early lead.

The Cajuns (14-8) scored two runs in the third inning for a 2-1 lead.  A sacrifice fly by Karly Heath tied the game at one apiece then a ground out by Lauren Allred scored Mihyia Davis for the 2-1 lead.

The Cowgirls tied the game at two all in the fourth inning on a RBI by Alayis Seneca that scored Rylie Bouvier.

The Cajuns scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.  Three runs came off two home runs including a solo home run by Kylei Griffin and a two run home run by Heath.  The other run came off a RBI single by Maddie Hayden.    

McNeese picked up four hits and left six baserunners stranded.  UL-Lafayette picked up six hits and left three stranded.

Bouvier led the Cowgirls with two hits while Seneca and Corine Poncho picking up the other two Cowgirl hits.

Ashley Vallejo took the loss and falls to 4-6 on the year.  Vallejo allowed four runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout.  Lindsay Davis threw 2.0 innings of relief, allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Chloe Rossette was the winning pitcher, improving to 1-1 on the year.  Rossette tossed 2.2 shutout innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.

McNeese will travel to UL-Monroe this weekend for a three-game series.  The Cowgirls and Warhawks will open the series with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday night.  The series will conclude with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
